Teens in the Fitness Center

Any teen that is a member working out in our Fitness Center must have parental consent. Parents must sign a consent form and go through a health history on their teen. Teens 12–15 may only enter the Fitness Center after they have gone through their first orientation and have received a teen sticker on their membership card. Upon entering the Fitness Center they must present their membership card with the teen sticker to the Fitness Center staff.

Black and Hispanic Achievers

The purpose of the YMCA Achievers programs is to assist Black, Hispanic and other youth and teens in preparing, pursuing and achieving post-secondary education and career goals of their choice.

YMCA Achiever programs help youth and teens raise their academic standards, develop a positive sense of self, build character, explore diverse college and career options, and meet and interact with professionals of color who serve as role models to inspire them to greater heights.

Goals & Objectives

  • Help youth develop a positive sense of self.
  • Raise academic standards of youth.
  • Build character.
  • Expose students to diverse career options.
  • Provide role models whose success and knowledge will inspire youth to set and reach their goals.
  • Create channels for continuing community involvement by business and industry.
Overview of the Black & Latino Achievers Program
The Black & Latino Achievers Program reaches into the heart of the community for both adult and teen achievers. By recognizing and utilizing the talents of successful professionals and community leaders, the program brings a much needed positive influence into the lives of young people. Every student stands to gain from the program.

Target audience
The ideal program should enroll youth in middle and/or high schools, from all income and academic levels. It is strongly recommended to recruit one-third "high" achievers, one-third "average" achievers and one-third "under-achievers."

Core component
The core component of the program is the relationship established between adult achievers and teen achievers during the career cluster workshops.
